Just the thought of downsizing is enough to put some people in a panic.\u00a0But there are actually many benefits to letting things go, and I\u2019m not the only one who thinks so! Here are three people\u00a0who would like to share their positive downsizing experiences with you.<\/p>\n

Richard M. is a widower who lives in Palo Alto:<\/strong>
\nI guess I\u2019m like a lot of people. I recognized I was getting older, but since I\u2019m active, I didn\u2019t worry too much about \u00a0it. When my wife died last year, I started seeing my life differently, and I realized that\u00a0living in a big house with all of this furniture made no sense<\/a><\/em>.\u00a0<\/a>That\u2019s when I called Maria.<\/p>\n

Right now, I don\u2019t know exactly where I\u2019m going to move, or what I\u2019m going to do. But I\u2019m looking around; and\u00a0when I find a new place that appeals to me,\u00a0<\/a>I\u2019ll be ready to move<\/a>.<\/em>\u00a0With Maria\u2019s help –3 hours a week on a regular basis — I\u2019m letting go of things a little bit at a time. It’s good to know I won’t be\u00a0stressed when it’s time to pack. And\u00a0I can\u2019t believe how\u00a0liberating it feels to be\u00a0living with less!<\/p>\n

Susan S. is a single woman who lives in San Carlos:<\/strong>
\nI\u2019ve always been one of those people who can\u2019t throw anything out.<\/em>\u00a0Because\u00a0I\u2019ve lived in the\u00a0same place for more than 30 years, I\u2019ve never had to. But when my house got to the point that there was\u00a0no more space to put anything, I knew I had to start letting some stuff go.<\/p>\n

I tried doing it by myself, but\u00a0I felt\u00a0guilty. I know it sounds silly, but I wanted my things to be loved. Maria understood exactly what I was talking about, and\u00a0she helped<\/em><\/u><\/a>\u00a0me find organizations<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>where my things would be needed and used.\u00a0I got a lot of joy out of\u00a0deciding who would get what. And, with all the room I have in my\u00a0house now, it\u2019s like I\u2019ve got a new place to live!<\/p>\n

Carol and Dan moved from their home in Hillsborough to a Senior Residence community:<\/strong>
\nWe thought our kids would be fighting over our stuff as soon as we told them we were moving.<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0<\/em>As it turned out, they didn\u2019t want a thing!\u00a0\u00a0We knew we couldn\u2019t take it all with us, so we called a\u00a0consignment store. Another shock! With the money it would have cost us to deliver it to the store, we would have been paying them to sell it!<\/p>\n

Thank goodness a friend told us about Maria.\u00a0She did a space plan for our new place, so we knew\u00a0exactly what pieces we\u00a0could take with us.<\/em><\/a>\u00a0She helped us sort\u00a0through the rest of the our stuff,\u00a0\u00a0and took care of donating the rest. Maria took us through\u00a0a very challenging situation \u2013- and made it much less stressful. We couldn\u2019t have done it without her.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
