Downsizing Through The Holidays

An important part of downsizing is knowing what to hold on to, what to share, and what to let go of. In the spirit of this giving season, here is your guide to Downsizing Through the Holidays.
1.Pictures.

Share. Going through picture albums, identifying the people in the pictures, and sharing stories is a wonderful thing to do. This is a great time to pass old pictures on to the next generation.

2.Ornaments.
Share. As you gather with family and friends – invite them to take an ornament off your tree and take it home as a memento of your celebrating together.

3.Recipes.
Share. Copy pages from your recipe books and distribute widely so that several people learn the secrets to making your signature dishes.

4.Decorations.
Share and let go. Wrap up “Santa’s Special Treasures” and keep them on hand as hostess gifts, or make them part of a family white-elephant exchange. As you’re packing up decorations, separate those you love from those you hardly use into two separate boxes. Next year, you can open one box, and donate the other!

5.Expectations.
Let go. This holiday season, leave behind ideas of the way things should be. Greet the holiday with deep appreciation and gratitude.

6.Christmas (Record) Albums.
Let go. With a resurgence in interest in vinyl, you may find someone in your family would love an album or two from your collection. If not, post-holiday is the perfect time to let go of albums you only listen to once a year.

7.Memories.
Hold. Make as many wonderful memories, and hold on tight. Sharing loving times with the people who are dear to us are what’s really important. May you create many wonderful memories this holiday season.!
